Things to do this weekend, October 16–18: five verified local picks

On this page

For October 16–18, 2026, our verified shortlist includes a Friday school-community festival in the Aubrey area and Saturday events in Anna, Prosper, Princeton and Little Elm. Two organizers explicitly advertise free public admission: Anna's BOO BASH and Princeton's Pumpkin BooLooza. Other listings have ticket costs or charges that still need confirmation.

The most useful choice is the one that fits your family's time, budget and tolerance for a busy evening. Here is how the five options compare, followed by the details worth checking before y'all leave home. All times below are Central.

This is a verified shortlist, not a complete events calendar. We did not establish a Sunday pick or a current-weekend listing for every town. That is a research gap, not evidence that nothing is happening. Our live weekend calendar shows eligible recently checked listings and links directly to organizers.

Friday: Sandbrock Ranch Elementary PTA Fall Festival

The PTA's current calendar confirms October 16, 4–7:30 p.m., at SRE Fields, 3690 Hunter Street, Aubrey, TX 76227. We use “Aubrey area” because a mailing address alone does not establish municipal jurisdiction. Current PTA event listing

The calendar advertises $20 tickets at the door. Confirm who in your party needs a ticket, adult/child eligibility, payment methods and any compulsory fees before going. We have not verified a complete family checkout total. The previous detailed festival page returned 404 during our afternoon recheck, so this guide now links to the working calendar entry.

The current listing names a petting zoo, face painting, cake walk, silent auction, vendors and food trucks. Our suggestion is to set a separate food and shopping budget and ask which activities admission includes. The calendar does not itemize every possible extra charge or provide a current online-sale price.

Saturday midday: free BOO BASH in Anna

Anna's chamber lists October 17, noon–4 p.m., at Slayter Creek Park, 425 W. Rosamond Parkway. Public admission is free. The advertised program includes vendors, food trucks, a children's costume contest and a kids zone with inflatables. Greater Anna Chamber's 2026 BOO BASH listing

The organizer warns that weather can cause an early close, with Anna PD involved in that decision, and says there is no makeup date. Vendor and sponsorship fees shown elsewhere on the listing are not the public-admission price. Food and shopping still need their own budget.

For younger children, our planning suggestion is to choose one or two priorities rather than wait until the final hour to start everything. Check the organizer again before driving. For another day, see the Anna kids guide.

Saturday afternoon: Prosper's Hometown Harvest Fair

The town confirms October 17, 4–8 p.m., at Frontier Park, 1551 Frontier Parkway. Its program includes hayrides, a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo, crafts and a marketplace. Food is available for purchase; the page we checked does not separately itemize general admission or parking charges. Official Hometown Harvest Fair details

Two practical details stand out. Bring a chair or blanket, as the town suggests. And the balloon glow is weather-dependent, with the town placing it at dusk in the PISD Stadium parking lot. It should be a possible bonus, not the only reason a child is promised the trip.

The town also describes a food-drive offer: donating at least three items from its linked Children's Hunger Fund shopping list earns a hot-dog-meal voucher. Follow that exact list and the organizer's instructions rather than assuming any three items qualify. Our existing Prosper and Celina festival guide has the broader seasonal comparison.

Saturday evening: free Pumpkin BooLooza in Princeton

Princeton confirms October 17, 5–8 p.m., at J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park, 500 W. College Avenue. The city explicitly states that admission and parking are free. Its program lists trick-or-treat activities, a DJ, costume contests, a petting zoo and strolling characters. Food-vendor purchases are a separate consideration. Official Pumpkin BooLooza information

Read the linked clear-bag policy before packing. The city allows non-clear candy bags only if they are empty on arrival. It also encourages leaving pets at home because of crowds, noise and costumes. These details can change what you bring even when admission costs nothing.

This is an evening option for families who prefer a later start to Anna's midday event. We have not measured travel time between them and do not recommend promising both without checking your own route and children's energy. Find everyday alternatives in our Princeton kids guide.

Saturday night: LC Rocks at Little Elm Park

Little Elm's official calendar lists October 17, 7–9 p.m., at Little Elm Park, 701 W. Eldorado Parkway. LC Rocks is the advertised band, with a classic-rock repertoire described in the listing. Town concert listing

Admission and parking prices are not stated on that calendar page. Confirm them through the organizer before treating this as a free outing. The same applies to food, seating, weather decisions and any venue restrictions not described there. Our planning suggestion is to use this as an evening anchor, with a clear departure plan for children who tire early. See the Little Elm kids guide for other outing types.

Choose one anchor, then keep a backup

For a daytime free-admission option, start with Anna. For explicitly free admission and parking in the evening, compare Princeton. For a Friday outing supporting a school community, investigate Sandbrock's ticket rules. Prosper offers a fall-fair program, while Little Elm provides a music-focused evening. These are planning distinctions drawn from the published programs, not firsthand reviews or crowd forecasts.

Celina's Beware! of the Square is October 24, not this weekend. Do not move it forward just because it appears in a fall roundup. Melissa's special-needs BOO event is listed for October 31 and requires registration. Both remain in our future-event research ledger and should be rechecked closer to their dates. For a lower-commitment backup, use our seven-town kids hub, including Celina, Melissa, Aubrey and Prosper. If you are considering a bigger nearby outing, the Universal Kids Resort planning guide separates dated admission and parking costs from optional spending.

Sources and review date

Organizer sources rechecked October 15, 2026, in the afternoon Central-time research run. No cancellation notice was visible on the cited event pages at the time checked. This is not continuous cancellation monitoring. Reopen the organizer's page before traveling or buying tickets, especially when weather could affect the program.

Public Facebook, ticketing and community-calendar leads were part of discovery, but accessible organizer pages supplied the verified details here. Some public social pages and ticketing links were unavailable or stale; those gaps are not evidence that a town has no events. We have not assumed unpublished prices, accessibility arrangements or eligibility rules.
