Melissa's District 46 street-project hub now lists an anticipated October 2026 construction start and fall 2027 substantial completion, weather permitting. The named streets are Harrison, Cooper and Red River. Those are planning milestones, not confirmation of a particular closure or that construction has started on every block. Keep the downtown vision separate from the street job
District 46 is the city's broader downtown initiative, including identity, signs, streetscape and public-space planning. Its street-improvement section is the place to check the construction milestones affecting these three streets.
The hub marks the June 23, 2026 award to Xit Paving as completed. It still labels the October construction milestone upcoming. We have not verified a specific mobilization date, block-by-block opening sequence or today's lane configuration. A contract award, a forecast and an actual traffic notice establish different things.
The city pages contain a schedule conflict
The dedicated project timeline says October 2026. A separate city FAQ still carries “Summer 2026 (TBC)” as its anticipated start. We use the dedicated hub for the current forecast because the FAQ itself directs readers there for the most up-to-date schedule. The inconsistent wording remains a reason to confirm a time-sensitive trip rather than infer work started in summer. City construction FAQ
The FAQ describes expected work hours of Monday–Saturday, 7 a.m.–6 p.m., subject to weather, utility coordination and field conditions. Expected working hours do not establish that every crew will work every one of those days.
Ask about access at the address you actually need
The city says temporary lane, parking and sidewalk changes may occur, with work phased to maintain access. It also says driveways or nearby access may be temporarily affected and affected owners will receive notice. That is different from guaranteeing every usual entrance remains available throughout construction.
Before an appointment, delivery or downtown errand, our suggestion is to confirm:
- Which street frontage and entrance you should approach.
- Where customers or delivery drivers should park during the relevant phase.
- Whether there is a continuous pedestrian route suitable for your needs.
- Whether the business or property has received a newer construction notice.
Do not use a decorative downtown rendering as a turn-by-turn detour. We have not inspected the site or independently verified an accessible entrance at each property.
Project helpline and service updates
The hub lists the project helpline at 469-830-7761. Give the destination address, planned day and whether the question concerns walking, driving or delivery access. The city FAQ says the project team aims to respond to project queries within one to two business days; that is not an emergency-response promise.
The FAQ says utility interruptions are not anticipated, while allowing for advance notices if they become necessary. It also describes coordination for deliveries, trash collection and school transportation. Read an actual service notice for your property before changing a pickup or travel plan.
For a separate family outing, the Melissa kids guide provides park and library options. It does not establish that a construction-affected route is currently open.
Review and limits
Official project and FAQ pages were checked October 16, 2026. This is a practical guide to the published forecast and access process. No new construction-start, closure, interruption or completed-project announcement is being inferred from an older plan.
