Johnny Broyles Nature Trail: pavement, granite and a Little Elm walking plan

On this page

Johnny Broyles Nature Trail has two different surfaces, which matters when planning a walk with a stroller, mobility aid or a child on a bike. The town describes a 10-foot-wide concrete section from Little Elm Park to Main Street, followed by about a quarter-mile of crushed granite toward Lakeshore Drive. Official trail description

Choose a segment before choosing a distance

The concrete path begins at the north end of Little Elm Park and ends at Main Street. The crushed-granite continuation runs from Main Street to Lakeshore Drive. Main Street is a useful decision point if your group wants to stay on pavement. It does not mean every crossing, grade or temporary condition has been checked for your equipment.

The town's trail page describes the concrete portion as just under a mile, plus the granite section. Its tourism overview uses a 1.5-mile description. Those summaries do not establish a measured out-and-back route from your parking space. We have not independently measured the trail, so choose a turnaround by your group's needs rather than promising an exact total. Town tourism park overview

Parking and access questions

The trail page lists parking at Little Elm Park and Main Street, with accessible parking at Little Elm Park. The park address is 701 W. Eldorado Parkway. We have not verified a complete accessible route, current construction conditions or a guaranteed available parking space.

Current October parking charges still need confirmation. The town-linked parking page advertises $10 per vehicle, per entry, for its April 3–September 7, 2026 summer parking window. That dated window has ended; it does not establish an October trail-parking charge or an event rate. Re-entry charges and seasonal-pass rules on that page should not be treated as a fresh October quote. Parking-source detail checked October 16, 2026. Town-linked parking information

Check conditions before heading out

The Little Elm Park page links the town's weather and wet-condition closure information and lists 972-784-0999 for that check. Review it before travel, particularly after rain. A clear sky when you leave home does not establish the condition of a granite section or a low spot along the route.

The park's posted rules require pets to be leashed and prohibit glass. Beach rules are separate, including restrictions on pets at the beach and beach sidewalk. Keep your outing on the intended trail rather than assuming every adjacent area has the same access rules.

A practical family walking plan

Our suggestion is to start with the paved segment, choose a turnaround before anyone tires and leave the granite continuation optional. Y'all can use a shorter walk as the outing itself instead of trying to combine every lakeside activity in one afternoon. Carry water and keep track of the return trip as well as the outward distance.
