Celina pumpkin painting: the free library afternoon versus the $5 Friday class

On this page

Celina has two pumpkin-making outings in the same week, y’all, and choosing the right one comes down to supplies, registration and the ages in your group. The library activity is free on October 21; the recreation class lists $5 per participant on October 23. These are separate programs from Saturday’s Beware! of the Square festival.

Ralph O’Dell Senior Center, 410 E. Main St.

$5 per participant listed in the city’s registration catalog; registration closes at 10 a.m. that day

The city’s Halloween activity overview lists both outings. For the paid class, the city-linked registration catalog supplies the program-specific price, location and deadline. Prices and terms were checked October 16, 2026; final checkout taxes or compulsory processing charges were not established, so $5 is a listed base price rather than a guaranteed final total.

Pick the free library afternoon for a simpler outing

The library’s October 21 program offers faux pumpkins to the first 100 artists at the downtown pavilion. Friends of the Celina Public Library funds the pumpkins, and the city says paint and decorating supplies are limited.

That supply limit matters more than the two-hour window. Arriving during the advertised hours does not guarantee a pumpkin will remain. The accessible city overview does not establish a reservation requirement or a detailed age cutoff for this activity. Check the library’s current notice before making it the only item on your afternoon calendar.

Because this is a Wednesday activity, it will not appear among our Friday-through-Sunday weekend picks. Keep the October 21 date separate from the Friday class and Saturday festival.

What the $5 Friday class includes

The registration catalog describes painting and personalizing one 6–7-inch pumpkin plus a second mini artificial pumpkin craft, with materials included. The program runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Main Area at Ralph O’Dell Senior Center.

The broader city overview refers to pumpkin painting and carving, but the actual class description specifies painting, decorating and the mini-pumpkin project. Do not assume carving tools or a carved take-home pumpkin are included. Use program 3319 when checking what your registration covers.

The venue’s name does not establish that the class is for seniors only. The catalog markets a family activity, but its two age descriptions do not agree: the structured age field says 4 and up, while the narrative says all ages. Confirm eligibility before registering a child under 4, and ask whether an accompanying adult who is not making a craft needs a paid registration.

Register before Friday morning’s cutoff

The catalog’s deadline is October 23 at 10 a.m., eight hours before the class begins. A registration account is required. We did not create an account, reserve a place or verify the number of seats remaining.

The catalog lists a maximum class size of 30, which is not a statement that 30 places are still available. Check the actual program before promising a child a spot. Read the class-specific cancellation and transfer terms at registration; the city’s general program terms do not establish a blanket right to cancel at any time for a full refund.

Compare the family cost without assuming an all-in price

At the listed rate, two paid participants total $10 before any unverified checkout charges; four total $20. Those are arithmetic examples using $5 per registered participant. They do not establish whether a nonparticipating caregiver must pay, or whether one registration can cover siblings sharing supplies.

The free library program has no advertised admission charge in the city overview. Optional food, shopping or another downtown stop is a separate household expense. Neither outing guarantees supplies or class availability simply because you have driven over.

Add the festival only if your family wants another day out

Beware! of the Square is a different event on Saturday, October 24. Our Celina and Prosper fall festival guide explains that outing’s schedule and admission caveats. Check that guide rather than carrying the class’s $5 price over to the festival.

For nonseasonal choices, use our things to do with kids in Celina page. A short library visit and a separate registered class can each work well; choose based on your group’s ages, supply needs and available time.

Before you leave

  • Reopen the city’s current program notice for cancellations or a venue change.
  • For October 21, remember the first-100 pumpkin limit.
  • For October 23, confirm eligibility, caregiver registration and the final payment total before the 10 a.m. deadline.
  • Take the address for the specific program: the pavilion and senior center are different destinations.
