Aubrey and Winn Ridge weather radios: eligibility, pickup and setup checks

On this page

Aubrey's Emergency Management Office lists a limited, no-cost NOAA Midland weather-radio program for City of Aubrey residents and the Winn Ridge community. The city directs applicants to confirm availability and arrange pickup with its emergency-management coordinator. Current stock is not confirmed, and an Aubrey mailing address alone does not establish eligibility. City program and request instructions

Confirm eligibility before making a pickup trip

The city's stated eligible groups are residents inside the City of Aubrey and residents of Winn Ridge. Its page says distribution is first come, first served while supplies last. It does not publish a live inventory or a universal pickup window. Use the coordinator link on the official page to ask about your address and arrange an appointment. We have not established a documentation requirement, household quantity limit or delivery option.

Y'all should treat the program as an application and availability check, rather than a promise that a radio is waiting at a counter. Ask whether any paperwork is needed and whether setup help is offered. Those details are not established by the public program description.

The county code and the radio frequency do different jobs

The National Weather Service's Fort Worth/Dallas coverage table lists Denton County's FIPS code as 048121 and lists multiple radio frequencies serving the county. A county code identifies the alert area; a frequency selects a broadcast. Use the instructions for the actual receiver rather than treating the six-digit code as a channel number. NWS county coverage and codes

NWS warns that reception depends on terrain, receiver quality, antenna placement and atmospheric conditions. A coverage map is a guide, not a guarantee of indoor reception. Test the receiver in the place you intend to keep it, and consult its manual or the program coordinator if the signal or alert setup is unclear. We have not tested reception at individual homes.

Set up more than one way to receive local notices

Aubrey's emergency-management page separately links its Alert Center for urgent local communications, city News Flashes and Denton County emergency notifications. A weather radio and municipal notices serve different information needs. Use the official links to choose the systems relevant to your household; this guide does not register anyone or establish that a subscription is active.

Our practical setup checklist is to confirm the receiver's power and backup-battery requirements, save its manual, test reception and review your other alert settings. Do this during an ordinary afternoon, rather than leaving the first setup attempt until a warning is issued.

For households moving into the area

Keep the city program's eligibility check separate from your water-service account. Our Aubrey move-in guide explains why the exact address matters for local services. Being eligible for one named community program does not establish that every municipal service covers that property.

Sources and limits

The city program page and NWS coverage table were checked October 15, 2026. This is a practical request and setup guide, not a current storm warning or a new program announcement. Radio stock, pickup arrangements and address eligibility need confirmation directly with the city before travel. Follow current official alerts when conditions change.
